And so it begins:

Wed Oct 21, 2009, 7:14 AM
So here I am sitting in the local library typing in this little journal about the things that are on my mind. I'm more than aware that people are probably looking over my shoulder and seeing what sort of nonsense I'm typing about and that's okay. I have nothing to hide from the world. I'm a very passionate person when it comes to writing. I have always felt that writing was something that I should pursue but I've never had the motivation. I write music, I write letters, I write emails and I write blogs. These are pretty small scale writing assignments that I've set for myself but it's still fun. There's something very liberating about the sound of you fingers hitting the keys just as there is something soothing in every different chord that can be played on a piano. Every single note even. That's one thing that has always fascinated me...

Why are we more inclined to hear one particular chord and find it more beautiful than the last? Why does the sound of a G sound so much more soothing than the sound of an E? What makes major chords sound full and complete and minor chords sound abrupt and choppy? I've always wondered exactly what it is in the brain that dissects these sounds so romantically and passionately. It's one of those things that I'll probably never have the answer to and since I don't really buy into higher powers I guess I'll never know. I cannot assume that our brains were just created that way because that would go against my standard thought process.

Religion is something that I'll probably end up blogging about a lot. For someone who doesn't accept any one particular faith and discredits them all.. I am a very religious person. I feel religion is essential in some ways but totally unnecessary in others. I'll go into all of that later.

A lot of people have been talking lately about President Barack Obama. They don't think he's doing a good job.. I'll be perfectly honest... I voted for him but I don't think he's doing a fantastic job currently.. We have to remember that it hasn't even been a year yet. Already late night television is beginning to attack him in the same way that they attacked George W. Bush: Unnecessarily low blows. That said, I hated W. with a passion. I think he really messed up a lot of things but I also don't think that he deserved all of the attacks that he got. Not everything was his fault. The Barack bashing is starting a tad bit early. If he still has a shoddy track record after two years then by all means tear into him.. I will as well. We can't forget that he has eight years of errors to correct. With all of that being said; I honestly believe that he is trying and I can't fault him for that.

And I can't help but notice that there are a lot of people who are annoyed that he won the Nobel Peace Prize... I can't understand their disgust. After all, it's just an award. He received it "for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples". If you'll notice the key word is "efforts". As I've said, the man has been trying to do the right thing and I think given enough time he will. Plus, Obama is amazingly popular all over the world right now so he's definitely doing a good job of making those "efforts" to bring everyone together. Furthermore, he didn't ask to be nominated. He didn't ask to win the prize. It was awarded to him and he was as shocked as any of us. So I can't see the point in getting so upset over something that he didn't even do.

That's my soap box for today. Just wanted to get that off my mind.
